Mitsubishi Power Systems Americas, Inc. Successfully Completes SCR System Performance Testing of F Class Combustion Turbine Simple Cycle Peaking Power Plant


LAKE MARY, FL. - Mitsubishi Power Systems Americas, Inc. (MPSA) successfully completes all performance and compliance testing requirements on the Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) Systems for four large frame F class simple cycle gas turbines (SGT6 PAC F4) that will generate 800 MW at the Marsh Landing Generating Station in Antioch, California. The power plant is located in one of the most challenging seismic zones in the United States with some of the strictest emission controls limits for oxides of nitrogen, carbon monoxide, volatile organic compounds and particulates. MPSA’s cutting edge Hot SCR System technology successfully maintained emission compliance limits through all contracted operating ranges including transient stages—the first time this has been achieved in the power generation industry. MPSA also maintained emission limits during rapid load changes and provided SCR operability from 0% to 100% CT load.


MPSA incorporated catalyst manufacturers, Cormetech (SCR catalyst) and Johnson Matthey (CO catalyst), using state-of-the-art catalyst formulations and manufacturing technology to guarantee emission conformance. More than 600 truckloads of components and equipment were shipped to the project site, many earlier than scheduled, to ensure turbine operations and compliance were achieved ahead of schedule.


The scope of work included process, design, structural, mechanical, electrical, Instrumentation & Controls engineering, and Computational Fluid Dynamics and physical flow modeling for the supplied equipment from the gas turbine exhaust expansion joint to the stack including:


• SCR catalyst modules and drop in CO catalyst panels

• Inlet and outlet transition ducts and all expansion joints

• 2 x 100% tempering air / purge air skid complete with accessories and interconnecting ductwork from the fans, including tempering air distribution devices within the SCR system casing

• Ammonia forwarding skid, vaporization skid, and injection grid with balancing manifold

• SCR emission controls utilizing PLC technology and control logic interface to the DCS

• Exhaust stack with advanced silencing systems for stack, tempering air fans and SCR/CO housing
